RAE Paper Trays
The winning design for Kokuyo Design Award 2021, and the first ever foreign winner of the Grand Prix. These paper trays are folded from single sheets of paper into soft and beautiful trays. Inspired by the simplicity of cardboard boxes, RAE trays are given a soft and friendly appearance with a unique folding technique.
Kokuyo is a leading stationary and office supply company in Japan, making desktop organizers a natural part of their product lineup.

Submitting a paper folding design to a Japanese competition was a bold move, but it did indeed pay off, as the judges praised its technical development and simplicity. After seeing how a tray was folded, the RAE trays were crowned Grand Prix winner by a unanimous panel.
Since the competition took place during the corona pandemic, we had to follow the judging remotely from our place in Finland.
